The National Weather Service is warning of increased fire danger today. A Special Weather Statement says warm, breezy and dry conditions this afternoon will lead to an increased potential for fire danger, especially in areas where vegetation has dried out due to a lack of rainfall over the past few days. In Northwest Indiana, we’re starting to see dry conditions from a lack of rain. The latest USDA Drought Monitor Map issued Thursday June 2 now shows most of Starke and Pulaski counties and southeastern Jasper County as Abnormally Dry. Counties across far northern Illinois and much of the southern third of Wisconsin also fall into the Abnormally Dry category.
