In Porter, Region residents can get a glimpse inside historic homes at Indiana Dunes National Park. The June 25th Logs to Lustrons Tour will feature log structures, frame homes, and homes of glass, stucco and metal. Landmarks.org says Lustrons were prefabricated steel homes built by the Lustron Corporation after World War II. Nine interiors will be open for touring. Reservations are required and there is a fee.
Tour shuttles will depart every 15 minutes from the Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm parking lot beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the last tour departing at 2:00 p.m., Central Time. The tour lasts about three hours, depending upon how much time you choose to spend at each site. Shuttles will circulate throughout the tour, so you can spend more time at sites that interest you. Tour sites close in the order of the tour, starting at 2:30 p.m. All sites close by 5:30 p.m. Central Time.
Reservations are required and there is a fee of $30 for adults, $25 for Indiana Landmark’s members while children under 16 are free but must make a reservation.
