In the latest USDA Drought Monitor issued today Thursday June 30, Northwest Indiana and most of the state are now considered Abnormally Dry. Locally only a small sliver across northern LaPorte County remains designated as normal. Moderate Drought has also expanded in west central Indiana including Benton and Tippecanoe counties, as well as a stretch in far southern Indiana along the Ohio River. The accompanying text summary says for areas of the Midwest that missed out on heavier rains earlier this week, “rapid drying is occurring in the short-term, leading to widespread introduction of abnormal dryness and short-term moderate drought.” Here is a link to view the Indiana map, and here is a link to view drought conditions across the U.S..
