A dangerous heat wave will affect millions of Americans across the Plains and the Midwest this week. The National Weather Service reports 30-million people across several states including Indiana will be under heat advisories. Parts of the central and southern Plains, the mid-Mississippi Valley, and the mid-South will see highs in the upper 90s to low triple-digits. High humidity will bring the heat index to a dangerous 105 to 110 degrees in the mid-to late afternoon. The National Weather Service says a Heat Advisory will be in effect for much of the day in Northwest Indiana Tuesday, July 5th, where peak afternoon heat index values could reach 105 to 109 degrees. A Flood Watch has also been issued that includes areas of Northwest Indiana from this afternoon through early Wednesday. Here is a link to the National Weather Service.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
