Thousands of people in northern Indiana were without power after early season snow Monday. The outages have been caused mostly by tree branches falling on power lines. The Indiana Department of Transportation says they will monitor weather conditions and send trucks out as needed. As of last night, NIPSCO said electric service to approximately 3,500 customers had been restored, and 9,300 customers were without power. That number as of this morning was down to about 3,000; the utility company said among the most impacted areas are Goshen, New Paris, North Webster and Syracuse. This morning Indiana Michigan Power had over 400 outages. Preliminary snowfall totals from the National Weather Service Northern Indiana for the lake effect rain/snow event ranged from about two to four inches as of last night. NIPSCO crews continue to respond and repair damage caused by stormy weather conditions, including strong winds, wet snow and sleet and that outages were primarily concentrated in the eastern portion of their service area.
