In Porter County, Liberty Township Volunteer Fire says it took delivery of a new 2022 tanker that will serve as the department’s newest tanker which primarily serves as a water hauler to fire scenes. Liberty Township Fire says the tanker is capable of holding over 4,000 gallons of water and serving as an engine-pumper if needed. Fire officials say the 2022 Freightliner replaces a 1989 Peterbilt Tanker that served the community for 30 years. A news release also says the new tanker, made in South Haven, Michigan at Spencer Manufacturing, features many upgrades including a chevron — an upside down āvā — rear backing to get the attention of drivers and warn them of potential hazards ahead. Liberty Township Fire is a 100% fully operated volunteer fire department serving Liberty and Jackson Township answering over a 1,000 calls annually, the department said.
