Astronomers say tonight December 8th will be the best time to see Mars this year. The red planet will be on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun, rising in the east shortly after sunset and setting in the west just before sunrise. It’s happening around the same time that Mars is closest to the Earth in its orbit around the sun, making it appear brighter than usual. Experts say Mars won’t be this bright again until 2025, so the upcoming days will be the best time to step outside after nightfall and observe it with the naked eye.
