The National Weather Service Chicago says the number of confirmed tornadoes is up to 22 in the Chicago forecast area from March 31, 2023, and additional investigation continues into other locations of potential tornado damage including Portage. One of the newly-confirmed tornadoes was an EF-0 near Shorewood Forest in western Porter County. An EF-1 tornado was confirmed earlier in Merrillville.
