In Valparaiso, the Porter County Health Department unveiled its new mobile medical clinic during a ribbon cutting at Central Park Plaza Tuesday. Inside the 25-foot-long vehicle is a full-size fully-equipped exam room, medical refrigerator, restroom, blood draw chair and wait room area.

“Our mobile health clinic will be used in areas away from the health department to provide vital health services and education to the citizens of Porter County,” said Porter County Health Department Administrator Sheila Paul. “In addition, the clinic will participate in community risk reduction events, such as health fairs and public awareness campaigns.”

The mobile clinic will provide a variety of services, the announcement said, including immunizations, health screenings at local events, taking part in community risk reduction initiatives, and increasing the health department’s presence in the community. “We are excited to take our services on the road to all corners of Porter County, empowering everyone to live healthier lives” said Porter County Health Officer Dr. M.L. Stamp.

The health department said the mobile unit was paid for using vaccine insurance reimbursement funds. “The mobile clinic will be invaluable in improving access to health care for underserved populations and will help create a healthier Porter County,” Sheila Paul said. The announcement said the vehicle is set to hit the streets May 26 at Living Hope Community Church in Valparaiso for a homeless outreach service event.
