The U.S. Drought Map is now showing Lake, Newton and most of Porter and Jasper counties in Severe Drought and Moderate Drought for much of the northern half of Indiana and a small portion southeast along the Ohio River. The rest of the state is considered Abnormally Dry according to the latest update released today Thursday June 15, 2023. The National Drought Summary said a storm system over the weekend “did little to halt widespread degradation of conditions across the Midwest,” although some spots did experience moderate improvements. The U.S. Drought Monitor is jointly produced by the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
