In Valparaiso, Ivy Tech Community College recently announced a new program launch with Opportunity Enterprises (OE) featuring training in light industrial work through OE’s Vocational Training and Empowerment Center (VTEC). Upon completion, students will receive an Ivy Tech certificate in Basic Production Principles. To prepare individuals to enter the workforce, VTEC incorporates specialized teaching styles which accommodates those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the fields of electronics recycling and refurbishment, custodial services and light industrial work, a news release said.
“For us at Ivy Tech, this is an incredible new opportunity. We are thrilled by this new program as it showcases in real time our commitment to fulfilling needs for the communities in which we serve. Ivy Tech is here to help both those seeking work and our local employers throughout Northwest Indiana,” said Campus Chancellor Aco Sikoski. In September Ivy Tech hosted Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch as the program was formally unveiled.
The VTEC program will run for twelve weeks beginning in October 2023. Training uses course materials and hands-on skills labs.
