In Porter County, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says the ramp from southbound State Road 249/Port of Indiana to U.S. 12 is scheduled to close on or after Friday, November 3, 2023, through the end of December 2023. A news release from INDOT said the closure is for pre-work in advance of a contract to both reconstruct the State Road 249 bridge over U.S. 12 and to build a second bridge. Major construction on that contract will begin in the spring of 2024. The official detour will be to follow southbound State Road 249 to eastbound U.S. 20 to northbound State Road 149.
