In Merrillville, the town says railroad crossing replacement between 66th Place and Caroline Drive on Broadway will take longer than expected. Canadian National (CN) Railway has informed the town the work will continue into next week but hasn’t yet been determined which day Broadway will reopen. The closure began November 10. Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route and thru traffic is encouraged to use Interstate 65. A news release from the town also said Merrillville Community Schools has indicated some buses are likely to run late due to the closure and additional traffic on alternate routes. A posted detour directs southbound traffic on Broadway to head west on 61st Avenue, south on Taft Street, and east on U.S. 30 to return to Broadway. Northbound traffic will be directed to travel west on U.S. 30, north on Taft Street, and east on 61st Avenue to get to Broadway.
