Mel Gibson Insists That ‘Lethal Weapon 5’ Is Still Happening

Mel Gibson confirmed that Lethal Weapon 5 is still in the works and that he will be taking over directing duties from the late Richard Donner. He mentioned during a podcast appearance that Donner had made progress with the screenplay, which they intend to leave mostly unchanged. “I’m pretty happy with it,” he said. “It’s funny, but it’s pretty serious too. It tackles a couple of hard issues. I’m looking forward to it.” Although the announcement of Gibson directing the film was made in November 2021, there are signs the project is finally moving forward and may start filming this year, nearly four decades after the start of the franchise.
