About a week ago early morning temperatures were in the upper 40s and new record lows for mid-August were recorded in the Region, but this week begins on a very different note. The National Weather Service Chicago says very hot and humid conditions are expected the next few days, with the peak of the heat wave and possible heat index readings around 110 Tuesday August 27, 2024.
The Chicago office of the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Tuesday that includes Northwest Indiana and says precautionary and preparedness actions include:
“Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
“Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.”
