In Valparaiso, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Porter County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), with the cooperation of local emergency response departments and agencies, reports they will conduct the county’s annual Emergency Preparedness Exercise within areas of the Montdale Industrial Park. During the setup and exercise that day, Montdale Drive will be closed to traffic from Raystone Drive to Slover Road/County Road 325 East. The annual exercise is required by federal regulations and the state. A news release said it’s important to note this will be a full scale exercise, and that emergency equipment will be seen operating on scenes that may be showing smoke and fire conditions by use of simulators both on Friday, October 11, 2024, for training and on Saturday, October 12, 2024, for the exercise. Participants are expected to include the Valparaiso Fire and Police Departments, county fire departments, Porter County Sheriff’s Department, Northwest Health Hospital and EMS, Porter County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Porter County Emergency Management Agency, Porter County Regional Airport, and local industry.
