“Deputy Chief Ryan Cusack, K-9 Jake and the Indiana USAR Task Force #1 are home! Thank you to Kate, DC Cusack’s wife, and our friends at the Crown Point Police Department and Crown Point Emergency Management Agency for helping us surprise DC Cusack with a warm welcome home,” a post at the Crown Point Fire Rescue Facebook page said. In Crown Point, the city hosted a surprise welcome home event for Crown Point Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Cusack and K9 Jake as they returned from a deployment with Indiana Task Force 1 to assist in hurricane relief efforts. A social media post by Crown Point Fire Rescue said this was the duo’s eighth deployment with Indiana Task Force 1 and the sixth for a hurricane, adding that after over a decade of service, K9 Jake is set to retire at the end of the year. The statewide team went to Florida and North Carolina in response to Hurricane Helene then returned to Florida after Hurricane Milton before returning to the Hoosier state last week.
