In Valparaiso, the city says Paul Sommer has received the Good Neighbor Award for 2024. A news release says Sommer, a podiatrist who has lived in Valpo for over 50 years, has translated his talent for endurance sports into ways to raise money for philanthropic causes and most recently was the top fundraising swimmer in the inaugural two-mile Chicago River Swim event to fund research for ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease.
