The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County has announced winter hours for the compost sites in Porter County. Beginning December 16, 2024, the Portage and Boone Grove Compost Sites will be closed for the season, making December 14 the final day for drop off. The Valparaiso Compost Site is open year-round for recycling, yard waste, and electronic drop off Monday-Saturday 8am-4pm.

Valparaiso Compost Site Hours (West Lincolnway):
Monday through Saturday: 8am-4pm.
Portage Compost Site Hours (US Highway 12):
Monday through Saturday: 8am-4pm through December 14, 2024.
Boone Grove Compost Site (County Road 400 West):
Monday through Saturday 8am-4pm through December 14, 2024.
Boone Grove and Portage Compost Sites will reopen for season March of 2025.
