In Crown Point, the city says it will be ringing in 2025 with a new event. For the first time, the city of Crown Point is hosting a ball drop downtown at Clark and Main streets. The free event Tuesday, December 31, 2024, takes place outdoors rain, snow, or shine, a news release said, with festivities beginning at 10 pm and continuing until 1 am New Year’s Day. There will be outdoor heaters at the event. Everyone is asked to dress for the weather. “Our team has been planning this event for two years,” said Crown Point Mayor Pete Land. “We’re looking forward to kicking off the New Year with what will hopefully become a signature event for our city and Northwest Indiana.”
The countdown will be led by Mayor Land and a couple getting married at the historic Lake County Courthouse on New Year’s Eve. The city worked with Herman’s Christmasland in Pierceton, Indiana, to design the ball, which will drop from a bucket truck at Clark and Main streets. While the design is under wraps until New Year’s Eve, Land said it incorporates recognizable elements of the Hub City.
Main Street will be closed from Joliet to Clark streets beginning at 2 pm December 31st and no parking will be permitted after 2 pm. Clark Street will be closed at East and Main streets beginning at 4 pm. Beginning at 5:30 pm., the trolley will visit municipal parking lots around downtown to bring attendees to the event. Some local businesses downtown will have extended hours and specials for the event. For a list, visit the city of Crown Point’s Facebook page.
