Gary Begins New Program to Upgrade Streetlights

In Gary, the city says streetlight upgrades will be happening throughout the community as part of a newly-launched Relight the City initiative. Work is underway to repair or replace 2000 streetlights across the city of Gary and replace over 150 light poles, beginning with Broadway, 5th Avenue, 4th Avenue, Grant Street, and Ridge Road, the city said. The program is funded with $3.4 million in American Rescue Plan Act Funds, a news release said. Phase two will focus on residential neighborhoods. City officials say the project should be completed by year’s end.
