National Weather Service Warns of Fire Weather Danger

Windy and very dry conditions are in the Region forecast for Monday January 27, 2025. The National Weather Service Chicago has issued a Fire Weather Watch that includes communities in northwest Indiana. Meteorologists say, “Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.” The weather service says, “A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.” According to the Hazardous Weather Outlook for northwest Indiana and the Chicago area, “There is a heightened risk for rapid fire spread this afternoon due to the combination of strong winds, dry fuels, and afternoon relative humidities as low as 25%. ” Here is a link to the National Weather Service Chicago website for updates.
