The Lake County Sheriff’s Department says officers launched a dramatic rescue Tuesday afternoon to save a dog from the roof of a three-story building in Gary. Police say an individual flagged down an officer after spotting the dog and another officer asked a nearby tree company to bring equipment to help bring the dog down safely. In a news release, Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said he wanted to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the officers for their bravery and compassion and a big thanks to Townsend Tree Company, Gary Animal Control, Silver Strays and all the members of the community who pitched in to help. “It’s wonderful to see so many people working together to help an animal in need,” Sheriff Martinez said.
