In Porter County, Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department says it responded to 24 calls for service on Sunday March 30, 2025, with 22 of those calls a result of severe weather. A news release said Liberty Township and Jackson Township saw a significant amount of damage throughout the area, and firefighters were faced with trees down across the roadway, power poles snapped and hanging, electrical lines hanging low, trees and tree branches suspended on lines, and power pole fires during and in the aftermath of the powerful storm. The fire department says fire crews, highway department workers, and utility companies worked to clear and restore the roads from debris. Liberty Township Volunteer Fire also reminded the community to obey unmanned barricades and follow directions from fire officials anytime closure signs or emergency vehicles are blocking the road. Motorists are also reminded when emergency conditions exist to not go around emergency vehicles blocking the road, the fire department said.
