Indiana Landmarks says it awarded more than $6 million in 2024 to help nonprofits and cities statewide save meaningful places. Locally that included a grant for design work and community engagement exploring reuse options for the 1930 Gary Roosevelt High School building, a news release said. Also in Lake County, a grant to repair stained-glass windows in the sanctuary of the 1917 St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Whiting as well as a facilities study of the church. And, the group says monies went to address repairs to the 1916-1926 Renaissance Revival-style twin bell towers at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Michigan City. Calumet Heritage Partnership received a grant to create a video series highlighting significant historic structures.
