Freezing Rain, Ice Accumulation Possible Wednesday

The National Weather Service Chicago says a wintry mix is expected to overspread the area Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening February 5, 2025, with some ice accumulation possible. Meteorologists say potentially hazardous travel is possible in northwest Indiana and the Chicago area including the Wednesday PM commute starting with snow and sleet changing to freezing rain mixed with sleet. Region residents may even hear a few rumbles of thunder. “Any lingering precipitation after midnight should transition to drizzle or freezing drizzle before ending in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday. Some impacts may continue into Thursday morning on untreated surfaces,” the weather service said early this morning (Tuesday February 4, 2025).
