Valpo Chamber President Rex Richards has announced the recipients of the Distinguished Community Leader and Legacy of Service Awards, top honors handed out annually by the Chamber.
Rob Thorgren, President of Thorgren Tool and Molding, has been selected as the Distinguished Community Leader for 2023. The Distinguished Community Leader is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated leadership across Valparaiso and Northwest Indiana and has had success in promoting the development of business and industry. The recipient also has an overall involvement in, and contributes to the community, has leadership roles in professional activities, has a high reputation among the community business leaders, and has contributed to the enhancement of the quality of life in our community on a sustained basis.
“Rob certainly fits every aspect of a Distinguished Community Leader. Through his numerous leadership roles throughout Valparaiso and his good reputation in our community, Rob is and example to all of us,” Richards said.
Thorgren is one of only three individuals who have received both Distinguished Community Leader and Legacy of Service Awards. He previously received the Legacy of Service Award in 2012. Dale Clapp and Dr. E. Ric Frataccia are the previous two double recipients.
The Legacy of Service Award is being presented this year to Steve and Pat Ingram. This award gives recognition to individuals who have, over the course of time, given service to the community beyond what is expected in their profession.
“Steve and Pat have, in fact, created an example to which others might aspire and a legacy from which others might learn the value of community service. They have worked together many years to become role models in their community,” said Richards. A news release from the Valpo Chamber said they have also supported numerous programs and organizations through their business, Valuation Services.
