Dry conditions are intensifying in the Region and across the Midwest. Nearly all of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin and most of Michigan are in some level of drought. The U.S. Drought Monitor Map update issued Thursday June 9, 2023, shows Moderate Drought across Lake, Newton, and Jasper counties, most of Porter County and the western half of Pulaski County, and Abnormally Dry conditions in the rest of the Region and most of the state. Region News Team Meteorologist Matt Wintz says we have rain in the forecast this weekend, and chances for more next week. Additionally, another Air Quality Alert is in effect for all of Indiana today Friday June 9, 2023, due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
