In Cedar Lake, officials say there were no reported injuries to the pilot, passenger, or anyone else near or on the lake after a helicopter crash early Monday afternoon. A news release from the Cedar Lake Police Department says the aircraft hit the surface of Cedar Lake and spun out of control. Police say a crane boat lifted the submerged aircraft out of the water and placed it onto a trailer on shore. Several other agencies also responded including the Cedar Lake Fire Department, Crown Point Fire Department, Hobart Fire Department, Merrillville Fire Department, and Lake County Hazmat. St. John FD, Lake Hills FD, and Tri-Creek EMS provided standby services. The Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.
