In Valparaiso, the city says the Utility Field Services Division of Valparaiso City Services will begin a scheduled maintenance program for water main flushing Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Officials say this maintenance will be performed across the south side of Valparaiso, with Glendale Boulevard/Evans Avenue/Harrison Boulevard as approximate boundary lines. Operations will occur between the hours of 7 am and 4 pm, with a few locations being completed during overnight hours. The work will take about 10 weeks to complete. Officials say unidirectional flushing is an important maintenance practice to improve overall water quality and sustain the integrity of the water distribution system, and the city and its customers benefit from the maintenance of water quality and fire protection capability. If your home or business is located in the south side maintenance area and you experience discolored water during flushing operations, the city advises to run cold water in the bathtub for five to 10 minutes. If the problem persists, or for other questions about unidirectional flushing, call Customer Service at (219) 462-6174 (menu option 4).
