Northwest Indiana residents will be participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s at three locations over the next few weeks. The Lake County Walk will be held at Wicker Memorial Park in Highland on September 10, 2023. The Porter County Walk is set for October 1, 2023, at Urschel Pavilion in downtown Valparaiso. The LaPorte County Walk will be held at Washington Park in Michigan City on October 7, 2023.
On walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the Promise Garden ceremony. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent a person’s specific connection to Alzheimer’s and their personal reasons to end the disease. Each Walk will also feature music, entertainment and family-friendly activities.
“We’re closer than ever to stopping Alzheimer’s,” said Heather Donofry, manager, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Northwest Indiana. “We invite everyone in our community to join us by starting a team to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds. The funds raised will help families facing the disease today and supports research toward continued advancements in the future.”
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, the Alzheimer’s Association said.
