In Valparaiso, Bob Thompson has been named Deputy Engineer for the city, Mayor Matt Murphy announced. “We’re so pleased to have someone with Bob’s extensive experience and expertise on our engineering team. His diverse background will be an excellent complement to our planning, engineering and redevelopment endeavors, including helping to update the City’s ADA transition plan, pathways master plan and engineering standards,” said Murphy. Thompson brings more than 33 years of experience with Porter County, most recently as director of development and stormwater management. A news release from the city also says he was responsible for creating the county’s unified development ordinance, the award-winning land use and thoroughfare plan as well as the design, planning and construction of county bridges. Thompson has a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the Illinois Institute of Technology School of Architecture, a bachelor’s degree in construction technology from Purdue University and an associate degree in civil engineering technology from Purdue University Northwest.
