In Merrillville, the town says a railroad crossing project starting November 10, 2023, will result in a week-long closure in the 65-hundred block of Broadway. A news release says weather permitting, Canadian National Railway will close that portion of Broadway from November 10th until November 17th while the work takes place. A posted detour will direct southbound traffic on Broadway to head west on 61st Avenue, south on Taft Street, and east on U.S. 30 to return to Broadway. Northbound traffic will be directed to travel west on U.S. 30, north on Taft Street, and east on 61st Avenue to get to Broadway. Advance warning signs will be placed at the crossing starting today Friday November 3, 2023, to alert motorists to the upcoming closure.
