New proposed political maps were unveiled in Indiana Tuesday. They get redrawn every ten years following the U.S. Census based on population shifts and designate the boundaries of voting districts. First District U.S. Representative would still include all of Lake and Porter counties; the area in LaPorte County would take on a square shape in the northwest corner removing a long narrow section just below along the western edge. Indiana House Republicans say the proposed map for state representatives increases the numbers of counties wholly contained within a single district from 26 to 32. The proposed state senate maps are expected soon.
