Indiana students pursuing a career in education can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educator Scholarship. The program awards $7,500 a year, for up to four years, for those earning a teaching degree, and who commit to teaching in Indiana for up to five years upon graduating. State Representative and Chair of the House Education Committee, Bob Behning, says the scholarship can help remove financial barriers and significantly decrease college debt for those becoming a teacher.
“Indiana recognizes the important role educators play in the future of our state and country”, Behning said. “This scholarship can help future teachers achieve their goals and address the financial concern many have when pursuing a teaching degree.”
The scholarship is open to 200 high-school and college students who either graduate in the top twenty percent of their class or who earn a score in the top-20th percentile in the SAT or ACT exams. Students must file a free, student-aid application each year, earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and complete at least 30 credit hours per school year. Current college students who apply must be able to use the scholarship for at least two full academic years. Online applications must be submitted before January 31st of 2022.
