A couple of weather observations this morning… first, regarding the rapidly changing conditions lake effect snow can bring to the Region and area roadways… Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Northwest tweeted a photo showing nearly six inches of snow in Westville, noting that someone else commented they also live in Westville and barely got a dusting. Winter Weather Advisories continue through this evening for Porter and LaPorte counties for lake effect snow. Here is a link to the National Weather Service website. And, it’s getting colder, but the National Weather Service said in a tweet this morning that today “pales in comparison to what it was like 37 years ago on this date” when Chicago experienced its coldest temperature on record – 27-degrees below zero observed at O’Hare Airport, on January 20, 1985, with wind chills that day “in the -50s”.
