Valpo Chamber President, Rex Richards, announced that Rick Urschel, President of Urschel Laboratories, has been selected as Distinguished Community Leader and Lori Mullet, former President of Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc., has been selected as Legacy of Service Award recipient.
Richards stated, “This will be the third Urschel who has been selected as the Valpo Chamber’s Distinguished Community Leader in the 36 years the award has been given. Joseph Urschel was selected in 1986 and Robert Urschel was selected in 2012”. The Distinguished Community Leader Award is presented annually to someone who has taken a leading role in Valparaiso civic affairs outside their industry to help chart the course in improving Valparaiso through community-based organizations in a visible leadership capacity. Rick Urschel has served in leadership positions in The Rotary Club of Valparaiso, the Valpo Chamber, the Valparaiso YMCA, the Valparaiso School Foundation, Valpo Park Foundation, and the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission.
“Lori Mullet has been an outstanding volunteer in numerous organizations throughout her entire career. She established a very special program that recognizes the veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam by taking veterans to Washington D.C. to view the monuments to commemorate those Veterans and their service. She raised $165,000 to launch that program” stated Richards.
Her involvement includes the United Way, the LeadingAge both in Indiana and nationally, and the Porter County Aging and Elder Style Valparaiso Task force. She has served the City of Valparaiso on the Arts Council and Human Relations Council, both appointed positions by the mayor.
This year’s Salute to Leadership Dinner will be held May 6, 2022, at the Aberdeen Banquet Center. Companies with 50, 75, and 100 years of operation will also be recognized. For information about purchasing tickets for the event, contact the Valpo Chamber at 219-462-1105.
