In northwest Indiana, the South Shore Line announces a new train schedule takes effect Tuesday, May 14, 2024, following the completion of the Double Track project which added a second track between Gary and Michigan City. The commuter line says the project allows for the addition of 14 weekday trains, reduced travel times, and new, limited-stop express service. A news release also said highlights of Double Track Northwest Indiana include increased origination service out of the new Miller Station and new 11th Street Michigan City Station, increased morning and afternoon rush hour train time options, and Bikes on Trains being expanded to include all trains, all year long, at existing bike stations.
