Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb recently announced a new program to collect and dispose of hazardous firefighting foam that contains a long-lasting chemical contaminant known as PFAS. Fire departments statewide can register for the free program at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security website; about 200 have already signed on to participate. The initiative, a partnership between the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Indiana Department of Environmental Management, makes Indiana one of just a handful of states to create a PFAS foam disposal program. In 2020, Indiana law prohibited the use of PFAS foam for any training purposes. Here is a link for more information.
