Crown Point Fire Rescue will host its inaugural Community Risk Reduction Event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Bulldog Park on South West Street. The event will take place of the fire department’s annual Fire Prevention Open House and aims to inform the community of ways to reduce risks for their family, home and business.
“Our firefighter/paramedics respond to a variety of calls. The better prepared our community is, the less likely it is that an emergency will occur,” said Anthony Flynn, firefighter/paramedic and fire and life safety educator with Crown Point Fire Rescue. “The best emergency we can respond to is the one that never happens.”
The event will have various booths from community partners and includes a bicycle rodeo with a bicycle helmet distribution, a hands-only CPR presentation and a pedestrian safety course.
Demonstrations also will be given on drowning prevention; disaster preparedness; car seat and booster seat safety; 911 awareness; carbon monoxide, gas and electrical emergencies; kitchen safety and burn prevention; home fire prevention; and home fire escape and safe meeting places.
The event will be held in partnership with Trailblazers Bicycle Shop; Franciscan Health Crown Point Trauma Department; Franciscan Health Crown Point EMS Academy; The Dean and Barbara White Crossroads YMCA Aquatics Department; Safe Kids Worldwide; Northern Indiana Safety Educators Association; Lake County E-911; NIPSCO; Provecho; the Crown Point Lions Club; Crown Point Emergency Management Agency; Crown Point Police Department; and the Crown Point PACE (Parks, Athletics, Communications, and Entertainment) Department.
