In Crown Point, the city says its Arbor Day festivities originally set for Friday April 26, 2024, were re-scheduled to this week due to the anticipated inclement weather. Mayor Pete Land and city staff will hold a ceremonial tree planting at 1pm Wednesday May 1, 2024, at the city’s historic Maplewood Cemetery, near the Wells Street entrance. The city also said the Spring Cleanup will be from 3 to 5pm on the same day at the Sportsplex on East North Street.
The city says last year about thirty participants collected dozens of industrial-size garbage bags of trash citywide including but not limited to downtown Crown Point, parks, and beside roadways. “Participants should dress in comfortable clothing and shoes they don’t mind getting dirty,” the city said. Those interested in helping are asked to contact the city. Here is a link for more information on volunteering for the clean-up. Here is a link for details on the Arbor Day ceremony.
