The City of Crown Point is planning a celebration later this month to honor the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day. At 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, Crown Point will host an Arbor Day ceremony at the turf field at the Crown Point Sportsplex on E. North St. Mayor David Uran will read an Arbor Day proclamation, and there will be a ceremonial tree planting. The City of Crown Point has been a Tree City USA Community for 19 years and is one of 10 municipalities recognized as a Tree City community in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.
Immediately afterwards, city staff and volunteers will convene for the city’s second Spring Clean-up Day from 3-5 p.m. Gloves, garbage bags and grabbers will be provided. Volunteers are advised to dress in comfortable clothing and shoes they don’t mind getting dirty. Last year, the city had over 30 participants at its inaugural Spring Clean-up Day. Volunteers collected 20-25 industrial-size garbage bags of trash over a three-mile radius across the city, including but not limited to parks, the downtown square, drainage ditches, retention ponds and the side of well-traveled roads.
Those interested in volunteering are asked to contact Spring Clean-up Day Coordinator Heather Evans at the City of Crown Point.
