In Valparaiso, the public is invited to the city’s Memorial Day ceremony scheduled for Friday morning, May 27th at 8am. The ceremony at Foundation Meadows Park on North Campbell Street will include words of welcome and gratitude, and recitation of the community member names on the Duty and Sacrifice monument.
In Crown Point, the community is invited to join the city, American Legion Post 20 and the Scouts for the annual Memorial Day Parade at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30. The city says the parade begins at Joliet Street, goes down Main Street and ends at Maplewood Cemetery for a ceremony.
In Lake County, Friends of the Veteran’s Memorial Parkway will host the annual flag raising and wreath laying ceremony Monday May 30, 2022.The organization will be honoring the legacy of Bob & Pat Ross, who in 1998 donated two acres of their 10-acre horse farm which eventually became the site of the Lake County Korean Veterans Memorial. The site is located at the intersection of 145th Avenue and US 231, just east of Leroy. The ceremony will start at 1PM Monday, Memorial Day, May 30. In Munster, on Memorial Day the public is invited to take part in activities planned at the Edward P. Robinson Community Veterans Memorial Park in honor of the men and women of U-S armed forces lost in combat. The ceremony is slated to include special recognition for the citizens of Munster. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30, Munster VFW Post 2697 will conduct a ceremony along with American Legion Post 16 at the park, which is on the west side of Calumet Avenue in Munster a couple miles south of Interstate 80/94. The announcement also said the post will fire a traditional 21 minute-gun salute with their ceremonial cannon beginning at noon.
In Lake County, the public is invited to a Memorial Day service at Stoney Run County Park on Monday May 30th, 2:30pm. The service will feature speakers, musical interludes, a cannon volley, and a display by the Indiana Fallen Heroes Project. Visitors of all ages are invited. Bleacher seating is available, or visitors may bring chairs or picnic blankets to set up on the lawn. A special invitation in 2022 is being extended to Gold Star Family Members. Following the service, any Gold Star Family members will be acknowledged and presented with a token of recognition. Additionally, the newest addition to the memorial site—a monument honoring GoldStar Families—will be officially unveiled. Gold Star Families are immediate family members of a service member who died in combat.
In Portage, the annual Memorial Day 12k Trail Run Extreme benefiting Gabriel’s Horn Homeless Shelter is Monday May 30, 8am – noon. The trail run will take place at Imagination Glen Park EAST, on North State Road 149.
In Valparaiso, the sixteenth annual Valparaiso Memorial Day Concert will be held Monday, May 30,2022, at 3 pm at the Memorial Opera House. There is no admission charge, but every audience member must reserve a ticket. Audience members are asked to bring non-perishable food items which will be collected by the Christian Food Pantry of Valparaiso.
In Highland, the Council of Community Events welcomes all residents, friends and families to attend the town’s Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. May 30, 2022 at Main Square Park. Honoring veterans and fallen heroes, the tribute will feature a display by the Indiana Fallen Heroes Association and guest speakers.
