In Valparaiso, Powers Health says it is expanding services for patients seeking emergency care. The healthcare system has announced a new emergency department will be built at the St. Mary Medical Center Outpatient Center on St. Mary Drive off State Road 49 in Valparaiso. The freestanding St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Department is scheduled to open late 2024 and will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a news release said. “This new Emergency Department is an expansion of the depth of services already offered and is an investment in the well-being of our community,” said Janice Ryba, CEO of St. Mary Medical Center. “We are committed to providing high-quality care for emergent needs where and when it is most needed.” Patients requiring hospital admission may be transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart for inpatient care as appropriate, Powers Health said.
