Northwest Indiana First District U.S. Representative Frank J. Mrvan today announced the University of Saint Francis Crown Point campus has received an additional grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) under the Department of Commerce. The $385,129 grant award will be used to purchase medical training simulation equipment and expand the campus’s capacity to train medical professionals. According to the EDA, the training equipment will provide value to all levels of trainees, and the expanded training programs will be a source for future healthcare workers that are necessary for economic recovery and resilience.
A news release said this funding is provided under allocations from the American Rescue Plan, which Congressman Mrvan supported in order to deliver critical relief to workers and ensure that Northwest Indiana communities can get past the COVID-19 health pandemic. Further, this funding also builds upon a Community Funding Project that Congressman Mrvan requested and secured in Fiscal Year 2022, $225,000 to support University of Saint Francis Crown Point Campus in their efforts to acquire lab equipment and supplies to expand the new Nursing Simulation Lab and Ultrasound Lab facility.
“I am grateful for the incredible services that the University of Saint Francis Crown Point campus provides for our region’s health and workforce. Congratulations to all of the leaders for your initiative and ability to utilize this federal resource. I look forward to continuing to support your invaluable work that provides individuals with world-class training and life-long career skills to thrive in the healthcare field during this critical time,” said Mrvan.
“The University of Saint Francis Crown Point greatly appreciates the awarding of the American Rescue Plan Act grant as we continue to prepare our outstanding students to excel and to serve the northwest Indiana healthcare community. We’re very grateful for Rep. Mrvan’s dedicated work in helping USF Crown Point receive this significant grant,” University of Saint Francis President Rev. Dr. Eric Albert Zimmer said.
