In Lowell, Indiana American Water Company says a precautionary boil water advisory was issued after a water main break occurred Thursday August 8, 2024, impacting nearly 1,730 customers on the east side of town. Customers in the affected area are advised to drink and cook with tap water only after boiling it for three minutes. A news release said the water main break impacted about 1/3rd of Indiana American Water customers in Lowell. The company said customers have been notified of the break and boil advisory by phone, e-mail, and text through the company’s Alerts1View emergency notification tool, and additional updates will be provided as new information is available. The company said precautionary boil orders usually last 18 to 24 hours and customers will be notified in the same manner when the advisory has been lifted.
