Community Leaders to Discuss Reducing Plastic Waste in Educational Spaces

In Valparaiso, educators and others will gather to discuss strategies for reducing plastic waste in schools. The meeting hosted by the Plastic Reduction Alliance of Northwest Indiana is August 28, 2024, 6:30pm at Valparaiso University’s Harre Union. The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County says it will feature a presentation from researchers in the field, discussions on successful plastic reduction programs in local schools, and time for brainstorming. Community members, parents, and students are encouraged to attend and contribute their ideas. “We believe that educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping the habits and values of future generations,” said Ellen Kapitan of the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County. “By educating and reducing plastic in schools, we not only protect our environment and increase healthy practices, but also instill a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship in our students.” For more information about the meeting or to RSVP, contact Julie Peller at Valparaiso University.
