September is Indiana Archaeology Month, and there are many activities throughout the month to learn about Indiana’s past at area universities, museums and organizations. Governor Eric Holcomb has proclaimed this Thursday, September 1st as “Indiana Archaeology Month Kickoff Day”. State DNR Director, Dan Bortner, says while archaeology does tell us about the past, it can also help us figure out more about ourselves, and what we may be like in the future. Bortner added the observance also provides a fun way for Indiana residents to learn about shifting movements and cultural interaction through time. This Saturday, September 3rd, Indiana Dunes State Park will share the JD Marshall Shipwreck Story from 3pm until 3pm at the Indiana Dunes Nature Center. And, later in the month, Tippecanoe River State Park in Winamac will host “Battlefield Park Archaeology Day” on Saturday, September 24th from 10am until 1pm. This will be the 27th year Indiana has celebrated Indiana Archaeology Month.
