In Valparaiso, the Parks Department has introduced a new 20-mile per hour Advisory Speed Limit with signage that will be installed next spring at twelve city parks. The advisory speed limit is a posted speed recommendation and is not enforceable, but Parks Director Kevin Nuppnau says the speed limit is designed to raise awareness of speeds and pedestrians around the parks. The new 20-mile per hour speed limit extends approximately 200 feet from the edge of park property in both directions. The zones will be clearly marked with yellow signs featuring a seesaw icon. In addition, piano key – striped crosswalks will be painted at select intersections within the speed zones. The Valpo Parks Foundation will be funding the project, a news release also said. The new speed zone signage and striping will be installed next spring at 12 Valpo Parks facilities, including 200 East, Banta Park/Activity Center, Berkley Park, Bicentennial Park, Discovery Cottage Preschool, Fairgrounds Park, Tower Park, Glenrose South Park, Jessee-Pifer Park, Ogden Botanical Garden, ValPLAYso Park and Will Park.
