In Porter County, certain holiday gifts could have double the impact in 2023. That’s according to the Salvation Army which says an anonymous donor will match cash donated to the iconic Red Kettles across Porter County, Indiana, on Friday December 16, 2022, up to $3,000. The funds were given in the hope that last-minute holiday shoppers would be inspired to give generously knowing their gifts will go twice as far to help those in need, the Salvation Army said. The Salvation Army also needs volunteers to help ring bells in the Region on these final shopping days leading up to Christmas.
If holiday shoppers increase their giving just a little, the Salvation Army said the goal of raising $3,000 in just a single day is attainable and once doubled, the grand total of $6,000 would help to fund vital services to the community in 2023. From keeping the food pantry stocked to providing funds for emergency financial assistance, these donations are used throughout the year to help local residents make it through times when they are struggling to keep a roof over their heads or feed their families.
“A matching donation of this amount will help us provide a safe place for kids to come and learn new skills in our NASP Archery Program, learn the piano or a brass instrument, or for us to just provide a safe place to hang out and participate in our character-building programs,” said Captain Jim Prichard of The Salvation Army of Porter County.
The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help ring bells at Red Kettles on Friday December 16 and on the final shopping days leading up to Christmas. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell for two hours is invited to visit RegisterToRing.com and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule.
